A classic Wilmington site, the battleship memorial has been open since 1961. Because it is a memorial, it is open every day of the year, including all holidays.

A historic place with revolutionary and civil war history. If you’re lucky enough to be here on Christmas Eve, be sure to attend the candlelight service in the ruins of the old church.

My absolute favorite “staycation” day trip! Southport has history, charm, good shopping, and good food. Spend the day walking the town as you window shop. Top the evening off at one of the many restaurants or clubs on the waterfront.
